In Memoria, Bertram Laudenslager, ASID, Medalist Award, Two Time President of Pennsylvania East

To our ASID  membership and design community,

It is with great sadness that I must share that long time member, two time Past President, and passionate Interior Designer, Bertram Laudenslager has passed away.

Many of us have fond memories of Bert throughout the years and we would love for you to share them with us; as well will gladly pass those along to his daughters. Please reply to this email and well collect that information to share out. We will be adding those memories and photos of his work to our website for all to see.

His daughters also wish to establish a scholarship for the ASID PA East Chapter that he loved so much, in Bert's name. Our Board has begun to establish that. Please find information below on how you may contribute in Bert's honor to the scholarship fund and information regarding his memorial services.

Sincerely,

Kimberley A. Slater, Allied ASID, Associate IIDA, WELL AP.

ASID Pennsylvania East Chapter, President

Bertram Laudenslager, 95 of Philadelphia, PA, sadly passed on January 31, 2023.

He was predeceased by his parents Herbert B. Laudenslager and Anna B. (Will). Bert is survived by his daughters Nancy Jacobs (Paul) and Carol Hebling (Tom). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Dana Mooney (Edward), Elaine Hoover (John), Corrie Drosnock (Eric), Katrina Krause and Brent Hoover (Christa). He enjoyed watching his great-grandchildren (and steps) grow up – Lucas, Chloe, Jacob, Carley, Hollis, Brianna, Koda, Mackenzie, Kayleigh, and Madison. He is also survived by his ‘sons’, David Sell (Steven) and Michael Weinstein (Marjorie & Max).

Bert wore many hats over his lifetime and had many passions. He was a man of faith. For decades he was heavily involved in his church(es), Faith UCC and later at Bethany UCC, in many capacities including leadership, liturgist, serving communion, as well as occasional design consultant.

Bertram had a passion for interior design that blossomed into Whitemarsh Interiors, (from 1958 to 2020.) Mr. Bert, as his clients called him, may not have remembered his client’s names but he could recall the fabrics/furniture used in their homes. He was an active member of ASID serving in many official capacities, including President on a national and local chapter level. His work was published, and he received many awards including the prestigious Medalist Award ASID. Interior Design remained a passion for Bert as he stayed current with design trends until the end.

He also loved anything Victorian and was an active member of the Victorian Society. He traveled around the United States and the world on trips sponsored by these organizations. Bert also volunteered at Historic Hope Lodge, Ft. Washington in many capacities. In his spare time Bert loved to read anything about history. He enjoyed laying out in the sun or soaking up the rays in his convertibles. His favorite sport was driving in the fresh snow, the deeper the better.

He had a very dry sense of humor with a tad of sarcasm sprinkled in. Bertram, (Bert/Dad/Grandpop/PopPop) was a unique individual and did it his way right until the end.

The Celebration of Life for Bert will be Saturday, February 25th at the Philadelphia Protestant Home, Main Chapel, 6401 Martins Mill Road, Philadelphia, PA 19119, at 11 AM. In memory of Bert, we are asking that attendees wear some purple, his favorite color.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in his memory to American Society of Interior Designers - PA East, PO Box 30190 Philadelphia, PA 19103, Memo: B. Laudenslager or Philadelphia Protestant Home Benevolence Care, 6401 Martins Mill Road, Philadelphia, Pa 19111.
